Serum LTB4 and Cx43 Levels in Patients with Periodontitis and Their Clinical Significances
Objective To analyze expression levels of leukotriene B4(LTB4)and connexin 43(Cx43)in the serum of patients with periodontitis, and to explore their clinical significances. Methods From January,2020 to January,2022,98 patients with periodontitis admitted to the Department of Stomatology of our hospital were regarded as the periodontitis group.According to the severity levels of their disease, these patients were grouped into the mild group(34 cases),moderate group(36 cases),and severe group(28 cases),while 95 oral volunteers with healthy periodontics were collected as the control group.Expression levels of LTB4 and Cx43 in serum were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlation of serum LTB4 and Cx43 expression levels and their correlations with periodontal probing depth(PD),attachment loss(AL),and plaque index(PLI).Logistic regression was applied to analyze the influencing factors of periodontitis. The predictive value of serum LTB4 and Cx43 expression levels in periodontitis patients was evaluated by ROC curve. Results In the periodontitis group, the numbers of patients with irregular tooth brushing, daily brushing time<3 min, number of times<2,and molars were significantly higher than those in the control group, while levels of PD,AL and PLI were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05);Compared with the control group, expression levels of LTB4 and Cx43 in the serum of the periodontitis group were significantly increased(P<0.05);Expression levels of LTB4 and Cx43 in patients with periodontitis in the severe group were significantly higher than those in the moderate group and the mild group, and the moderate group were significantly higher than the mild group(P<0.05);Pearson correlation analysis showed that levels of LTB4 and Cx43 in serum and the values of PD,AL and PLI were positively correlated(P<0.05);Logistic regression analysis showed that PD,AL,PLI,LTB4,and Cx43 were the influencing factors of periodontitis(P<0.05).The area under the curve predicted by serum LTB4 and Cx43 was greater than that predicted by each single indicator(Z=13.582,P<0.001;Z=8.103,P<0.001).Conclusion Expression levels of LTB4 and Cx43 in serum of patients with periodontitis are significantly increased, and the expressions of these two markers are positively correlated, which are the influencing factors of periodontitis.
