The Research on the Case-based Pathogen Flipped Classroom Salon in Microbiology Practice Teaching
Objective This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of implementing a case-based pathogen flipped classroom salon within the microbiology practical educations practical teaching framework,so as to enhance the overall quality of the microbiology practical education practical education program.Methods Thirty-seven interns specializing in Medical Laboratory Technology,undergoing internships in the Laboratory Department of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital's Laboratory Medicine Department Hospital from 2023,were selected for this study.Utilizing clinical cases as a guide and adopting the flipped classroom approach,a pathogenic bacterium sharing salon(hereinafter referred to as the"innovative classroom")was executed,adopting a"one person,one bacterium,one case"format.Forty-eight interns specializing in Medical Laboratory Technology,undergoing internships in the Laboratory Department of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital's Laboratory Medicine Department hospital from 2022,were selected for the control group(referred to as"traditional classroom"),and the teaching effect was evaluated through subject assessment scores and questionnaire surveys;We simultaneously compared the teaching performance scores of two groups of clinical teachers and evaluated their teaching enthusiasm.Results In terms of teaching effectiveness,the innovative classroom significantly piqued students'curiosity in microbiology courses(P<0.001),expanded their learning horizons both online and offline(P<0.001),and improved their pathogen identification skills(P<0.001).Furthermore,students reported improvements in their communication and expression abilities,comprehension skills,clinical thinking in the innovative classroom(P<0.005).The theoretical and operational assessment scores of students in the innovative classroom group were significantly higher than those in the traditional classroom group(P<0.001);The median score of teaching performance of clinical teachers in the innovative classroom group was significantly higher than that in the traditional classroom group(P<0.05).Conclusion The case-based pathogenic bacteria flipped classroom salon has a significant impact on microbiology practical education program,enhancing students'job competencies,fostering clinical teachers'enthusiasm for teaching,and providing a valuable reference for the practical teaching of other medical disciplines.
