Effects of Ferrous Fumarate Combined with Nutritional Support on Nutritional,Immune and Blood Indexes of Malnourished Children
Objective To investigate effects of ferrous fumarate combined with nutritional support on nutritional, immune and blood indexes of malnourished children. Methods A total of 100 malnourished children admitted to Yantai Mountain Hospital from January,2020 to June,2023 were prospectively selected and divided into a control group and a study group with 50 cases in each group according to random number method. The study group received oral ferrous fumarate on in addition to nutritional support, while the control group received pure nutritional support for 4 weeks. The clinical efficacy, adverse reactions, nutritional indexes, blood indexes and immune indexes were compared between the two groups after treatment. Results The clinical efficacy rate of the study group (86.00%)was significantly higher than that of the control group (68.00%)(x2=4.574,P=0.033).After treatment, the study group had significantly higher levels of body mass index (BMI),transferrin (TRF),prealbumin (PAB),albumin,pre-albumin,serum iron (SI),hemoglobin (Hb),and reticulocytes, compared to the control group (P<0.05).Levels of IgA,IgG,and IgE were significantly higher in the study group compared to the control group (t=4.602,3.393,2.772,P<0.05),while IgM levels were significantly lower in the study group compared to the control group (t=3.805,P=0.001).There was no significant difference in adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion Ferrous fumarate combined with nutritional support can significantly improve the nutritional status and immune function of malnourished children,as well as iron metabolism disorders, also can increase hemoglobin levels, with fewer adverse reactions and a high level of safety. Our study suggests that it is worth applying in clinical practice.
