The Distribution of Early Infectious Pathogens in Children with Sepsis and the Diagnostic Value of Serum TRAF6 and STAT3 Levels
Objective To investigate the distribution of early infectious pathogens in children with sepsis and diagnostic values of serum tumor necrosis factor receptor associated factor-6 (TRAF6),signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT3).Methods From January,2021 to October,2023,101 children with sepsis who were treated in our hospital were regarded as the trail group, while 62 healthy children with normal examinations were selected as the reference group.Drug sensitivity test was conducted to detect the early infection of pathogens in these children.Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)was applied to detect serum levels of TRAF6 and STAT3 in all study subjects. The diagnostic value of serum TRAF6 and STAT3 levels in children with sepsis was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC)curves. The relevant factors affecting the occurrence of sepsis were identified using a logistic regression model. Results Staphylococcus aureus,Staphylococcus epidermidis,Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were identified as the most commonly infected strains in studied children with sepsis.Serum levels of TRAF6 and STAT3 in the trail group were significantly higher than those in the reference group (P<0.05),and levels of TRAF6 and STAT3 increased with the severity of patients'condition (P<0.05).AUCs of TRAF6,STAT3,and their combined diagnosis for sepsis were 0.895,0.856,and 0.951,respectively,indicating a relatively higher value of combined diagnosis (Zcombined diagnosis-TRAF6=2.726,P=0.006;Zcombined diagnosis-STAT3=4.077,P<0.001).Wound infection and elevated levels of serum TRAF6,STAT3,IL-6,CRP,and PCT were identified as risk factors for sepsis (P<0.05).Conclusion The main pathogens of infections in children with sepsis are Staphylococcus aureus,Staphylococcus epidermidis,Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.Serum levels of TRAF6 and STAT3 are significantly increased in children with sepsis, indicating a good diagnostic value. The combined diagnostic value of these two indicators is even higher.
