The Research Progress of Mycoplasma Genitalium Infection and Female Reproductive Tract Disease
Mycoplasma genitalium is an emerging sexually transmitted infection pathogen in recent years.It features with a unique pathogenic mechanism and mild symptoms,and is shown to be an important pathogenic microorganism of male and female urogenital tract infections.Mycoplasma genitalium is closely related to male urethritis,female cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory diseases,and could also lead to tubal infertility and adverse pregnancy outcomes.Furthermore,it can also play a crucial role in the acquisition and persistence of lower reproductive tract infectious diseases,such as human papillomavirus infection and bacterial vaginosis.The rise of antibiotic resistance is also a significant challenge.This article reviews the recent research progress on the epidemiology,pathogenic mechanism and related female reproductive system diseases of Mycoplasma genitalium,aiming to enhance the awareness and attention towards Mycoplasma genitalium,thereby providing useful references for prevention and treatment of its related female reproductive system diseases.
