A Case Study of Infectious Endophthalmitis Caused by Neisseria Meningitidis in an Elderly Diabetic Patient
A 74-year-old elderly male with diabetes mellitus was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of redness, swelling and pain in the right eye.The clinical diagnosis of infectious endophthalmitis caused by Neisseria meningitidis was made by sampling the patient's right anterior chamber of the eye and vitreous cavity aspirate for smear culture and metagenomics next generation sequencing. The final diagnosis of Neisseria meningitidis was made by metagenomics next generation sequencing. After surgical treatment, along with prompt and effective antibiotic therapy, the patient's right eye infection was better controlled, and the endophthalmitis was significantly improved. The patient was then discharged from the hospital.
