On empowering social organizations in community-based environmental governance with digital technology:a case study of'country to residence'community
[Objective]This article aims to innovate community-based environmental governance(CEG)with digital technology taking community social organizations as organizational platforms.[Methods]Taking the environmental governance volunteer service organization in Community W in Beijing as a typical case,it finds that digital technology empowers community social organizations to respond to the environmental governance needs of"country to residence"communities.[Results]The"virtual public space"constructed by the WeChat group of community social organizations has become an important invisible domain for high-frequency interaction and environmental supervision among residents,enhancing their emotional connections and organiza-tional cohesion.[Conclusion]Digital technology empowers social organizations to participate in the CEG,facilitating communi-cation channels between community social organizations and various stakeholders such as community resident committees,vol-unteers,property companies,and social workers.The synergy between online communication and negotiation in WeChat groups and offline organized actions has elevated the residents'sense of collective efficacy,further promoting the integration a-mong different groups within"country to residence"communities and leading to relationships characterized by freedom,open-ness,and connectivity.
