Vocational education serves as a crucial support for youth development, demonstrating significant value in three aspects:adhering to individualized instruction and respecting individual differences;enhancing employability and alleviating employment pressure;and supporting disadvantaged youth to narrow the wealth gap. However, the current effectiveness of vocational education in empowering youth development has not yet been fully released. From the perspective of Amartya Sen's feasible ability, vocational education is still weak in empowering young people's feasible ability, especially in terms of work ability, learning ability and emotional ability. The main dilemmas are that there is a skills mismatch between youth work competencies and the market, youth learning competencies are difficult to support for lifelong development, and youth emotional competencies have not yet been effectively supported. The reasons for these problems can be analyzed from both the internal and external aspects of vocational education.Externally,a cross-border pattern around youth skill development has not yet been formed;internally, the value rationality of attaching importance to youth personality development tends to weaken. To further optimize the pathway of vocational education in empowering youth development, three optimization strategies are proposed:constructing a"multi-collaborative"ecosystem to enhance youth skill appropriateness;implementing the"health-first"educational philosophy to promote youth emotional completeness;and transcending the"pragmatism-oriented"educational standpoint to achieve youth life wholeness.Vocational education needs to continuously deepen reforms in these aspects to lay a solid foundation for youth growth, talent development, and the realization of their life values.
