A Narrative Analysis on the Fraud Script of Agent Investment"Pig-Butchering Scam"
In recent years,the emergence and spread of"Pig-Butchering Scam"has brought both emotional and property losses to the victims.However,the victims are not puppets who are completely restrained by emotions and scripts.Although the deception itself seems to be an irrational decision,there still exists the victim's subjective investment decision,but the fraud script and symbol performance of"Pig-Butchering Scam"potentially affect and manipulate their decision-making psychology and process.In this paper,With the theoretical perspective of Shiller's narrative economics,the author use participant observation method,then with the help of the victim's interview,this paper summed up five kinds of narrative in the investment kind"Pig-Butchering Scam":"Grassroots counterattack","Side Hustles as Rigid Demand","Internet Entrepreneurship","Health Wellness"and"Independent Female".Then explore how these narratives affect the victims'investment decisions and individual choices.This paper argues that these five kinds of narratives provide the basis and rhetoric for the possibility of success,necessity,feasibility and ease of operation,and rationality of industry selection for the so-called investment agents,which stimulate the investment desire of the victims step by step.Ultimately,the narratives affect their investment decisions.Therefore,in view of the characteristics of"Pig-Butchering Scam"fraud always landing in financial management and investment,it is necessary to popularize more common sense of investment and financial management,increase the public's rational investment awareness,which is beneficial to prevent the spread of such kind of fraud.
