Against the backdrop of rapid aging,China is in urgent need of a large number of high-qual-ity geriatric nursing talents. The cultivation of such talents should be closely centered on the core compe-tencies of geriatric nursing. Research on the core competencies of nurses specializing in geriatric nursing is still in its exploratory stage in China,and authoritative standards for these competencies have yet to be es-tablished. Based on existing research,attempts can be made to enhance students' core competencies in geri-atric nursing by reconstructing the geriatric nursing curriculum system,establishing geriatric nursing in-ternship/training bases within elderly care institutions,standardizing the content of geriatric nursing intern-ships,and enriching students' internship experiences.
