The Practices of Urban Sports Strategies in American Cities from the Perspective of Urban Renewal:A Case Study Based on Three Cities of Different Sizes
Urban renewal is the redevelopment process in the transformation of cities,characterized by optimizing space and resources,reviving the functions of declining areas,and enhancing social mix.The United States,as one of the first countries to undertake modem urban renewal,has seen many cities drive urban renewal with sports strategies.This study analyzed the practices and main measures of urban sports strategies in the process of urban re-newal in three cities of different sizes in Columbus,Denver,and Redding by using research methods of literature review and case studies,and summarized the general characteristics of American urban sports strategies:the fundamental goal of economic rejuvenation and improving residents'quality of life,the more evident role of profes-sional team leagues in large and medium-sized urban renewal,the location-specific investment and financing methods of sports venues,and the key role of comprehensive development of new catalyst elements around the venues.The findings are instrumental for China,suggesting the optimization of urban resource allocation to construct people-centered sports cities,strengthening regional city linkage,building professional sports teams for differentiated city branding,exploring diversified financing models for innovative public sports investment,and leveraging the catalytic effect of stadiums to create multi-functional urban sports zones.
