Construction and Practical Implications of the Utilization Index for Large Stadiums in China
The Chinese Stadium Utilization Index(CSUI)was developed based on how the facilities were used to support national fitness initiatives and host events and activities;the data of China's large-scale stadiums are select-ed for empirical research to analyze the factors that impact the utilization index, discuss practical insights of impro-ving stadium utilization rates, provide a measurement index of the utilization rate for venues, and offer references for the improvement of the utilization rate of the venues. The study found that variables including stadium size,com-pletion time, type of operator, government subsidies, and information technology are significantly correlated with the stadium utilization index, with slight differences in the influencing factors between event SUI and fitness SUI.Fitness SUI may be predicted by variables such as stadium size, completion time, government subsidies, and infor-mation technology, while event SUI can be predicted by stadium size and local economic and social development. The practical implications are as follows.1)Clearly define the functional positioning of the venues and rationally determine the scale of construction.2)Cautiously consider"building for events"and focus on long-term utilization of newly built venues.3)Value the upgrade and transformation of the hardware and software environment of the venues to enhance the intelligence and refinement of the venue utilization.4)Expand the scope of financial subsi-dies to improve the level of public and open use of venues.5)Advance the reform of the operating rights and im-prove the design of relevant supporting systems.6)Emphasize the summarization and refinement of local experiences to provide Chinese solutions to the world.7)Strengthen the promotion and application of the utilization index to provide decision-making references for increasing the utilization rate of stadiums.
