Regional Differences and Convergence Trends in the Development of China's Sports Industry:An Empirical Study Based on Sports Industry Statistics from 2015 to 2021
In order to promote the coordinated and high-quality development of China's regional sports industry and narrow the gap between the development of regional sports industry,this study analyzed the regional differences in the development of China's sports industry and the trend of convergence based on the statistical data of sports in-dustry of 23 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government)from 2015 to 2021,using the Theil Index,σ-convergence Model and β-convergence Model.The study found that:during the sample period,the incremental value added of the sports industries in the three major regions showed a distri-bution pattern of"East＞Central＞West",while the growth rate showed a distribution pattern of"Central＞West＞East";the overall differences in the development of the regional sports industry and the intra-regional differences showed a trend of narrowing first and then expanding,while the inter-regional differences showed a continuous trend of narrowing;the main source of the overall differences in the development of the regional sports industry has shifted from the inter-regional differences to the intra-regional differences,and the internal differences in the eastern provinces are the main source of the intra-regional differences;the σ-convergence analy-sis showed that the differences in the development of the sports industry in the whole country,eastern provinces,and western provinces were expanding,while the differences in the development of the sports industry in the cen-tral provinces were decreasing;the β-convergence analysis showed that the whole country,central and western provinces with low level of sports industry development had a"catching-up effect"on high level provinces,while eastern provinces with low level of sports industry development did not have a"catching-up effect"on high level provinces.Based on the conclusions of the study,policy recommendations are put forward in terms of balancing regional financial investment in sports,expanding the radius of regional division of labour and cooperation,and activating the vitality of regional sports consumption.
