During the"14th Five-Year Plan"period, the skill-grading system for athletes in China will enter a crucial phase of transformation from reform and development to high-quality development. In this context, deeply assessing its developmental trends and reform strategies has become one of the key tasks for the advancement of China's sports un-dertakings.Based on the new stage of development, this paper systematically reviews the new requirements, new situ-ations and new challenges faced by the development of skill-grading system for athletes in China, and thoroughly ex-plains the development track of this system and the core challenges it faces by using methods of literature review,ex-pert interviews and field investigations. This paper proposes an overall plan for forward-looking reform strategies of the skill-grading system from overall dimension, system dimension, management dimension and content dimension. The research finds that the core challenges faced by the development of the skill-grading system lie in insufficient overall coordination, incomplete systematic reform, weak operational supervision, and a lack of institutional internal capacity. Therefore, the forward-looking reform strategies are put forward:holistic reform to break through the"lack of overall coordination";systemic reform to tackle the problem of"incomplete systematic reform";management reform to crack the"weak operational supervision";content reform to rectify the problem of the"lack of institutional capacity".This provides a theoretical and decision-making reference for reforming the skill-grading system for athletes in China, which holds significant practical implications for building China into a leading sports nation.
