Beijing Sport University and Sports Diplomacy of the People's Republic of China:Interpretation and Enlightenment from Three Historical Images
Applying the theory of visual historiography, this study examines three historical video materials related to Beijing Sport University and sports diplomacy after the founding of the the People's Republic of China.Through an in-depth analysis of these images from four dimensions—image production, image language, visual narrative, and expressive function—it explores the crucial role of Beijing Sport University in China's sports diplomacy and summarizes the universal implications of sports historical image research. The study finds that Beijing Sport Univer-sity,as a"window of Chinese sports,"has played a significant role in showcasing the country's sports achieve-ments,promoting international sports and cultural exchanges, and advancing national diplomatic relations.Sports historical images demonstrate multiple values in sports research, not only providing visual immediacy and a sense of presence, but also effectively recreating historical scenes through emotional resonance and empathy. They have pro-moted innovation in sports history research methods, facilitated the transition of sports history research from acade-mia to public view, and become an important link for interdisciplinary research. However, this research field also faces challenges such as the partiality of the images themselves, the subjectivity in creation, and issues related to preservation and application.Nevertheless,as a new carrier for sports history research, sports historical images not only provide new perspectives and methods for reconstructing and disseminating sports history but also open up broad research space and possibilities for its theory and practice.
