On Poetry,Poetic Thinking and"Poetic Rhetoric"of Dance
Poetry is a rhetorical form to express ideas.Dance and poetry share similar ways of conveying meanings and artistic pursuits, both of which use imagery combinations to constitute artistic conceptions to express emotions or sentiments, the"poetic nature",as a medium connects dance and poetry to the"poetic thinking",a widely possessed human trait that lays the foundation for Chinese culture.Poetic thinking is a creative mindset formed by cognitive paradigms such as imagination and metaphor. It retains the views of primitive people in understanding and grasping the world, such as"projecting oneself onto others","all things have life","all things have a common feeling"and"the unity of subject and object".It possesses characteristics of primitive thinking such as sensibility, aesthetics, imagery, and experience. It is also classified as a series of rhetorical thinking under linguistic and ideographic conventions and forms of poetry. The"poetic rhetoric"uses collective unconsciousness or prior experience to meet the needs of dance narrative and ideographic expression, helping us fill the rhetorical gaps in dance aesthetics. It becomes a visual dialogue between dance creation and aesthetic acceptance with scientific justification yet no need for language redundancy, guiding us to a new world of dance aesthetics that needs to be explored.
