Dance Images of"Fire Mansion Metaphor"in Cave 154 of Mogao Grottoes
The dance image of the"fire mansion metaphor"originated from Cave 154 of the Mogao Grottoes, featuring a male dancer in Hu costume performing movements such as raising sleeves, bending legs, and stepping out, reflecting a distinct dance style.Through image analysis, the paper reveals that the dancer's movements embody strong Sogdian artistic elements, yet it is insufficient to categorize it simply as"Hu Teng dance"or"Hu Xuan dance".Thus, the"Fire House"dance and similar dances largely reflect the history of dance performances in the Dunhuang region during the Mid-Tang Dynasty.By analyzing the visual forms of such dance images, this paper can understand the cultural attributes of dance and the choices of Dunhuang people for music and dance forms,in order to grasp the complex historical background of grotto construction during the Tubo rule in Dunhuang.
