The"Neglected"Era:a Re-examination of Chinese Ballet Creation in the 1990s
The history of Chinese ballet and dance dramas has paid insufficient attention to ballet creation in the 1990s,leading this decade to be a relatively"neglected"period in the written history of Chinese ballet. In fact,a large number of ballet works were produced in the 1990s.Influenced by cultural system reforms, this period served as a crucial transitional phase for the expansion and exploration of Chinese ballet creation. This paper focuses on ballet works such as The Wild Goose Flies South,Fantasy of the Red Mansions,Butterfly Lovers,Phoenix, and The Spirit of the Dazu Stones, and analyzes Chinese ballet creation during the 1990s.It argues that the avant-garde modern consciousness and national cultural sentiments contained in ballet dramas during this period laid an important foundation for the development of Chinese ballet in the new century.Based on relevant critiques and case interviews, the paper aims to gain deeper insights into the distinctive qualities of ballet creation in the 1990s,highlighting its significance in the history of Chinese ballet development.
