Seeking Realism:The Interest of Painting in Bak Ji-won's A Philosopher's Journey into Rehe
For a long time,due to the emphasis on simplicity in the painting ideas in Bak Ji-won's A Philosopher's Journey into Rehe,few scholars have entered the text from the perspective of painting theory.However,Bak Ji-won's analysis of painting from the perspective of comparison be-tween China and the West fully demonstrates the desire of the nation in the midst of transformation for the construction of"cultural confidence".Therefore,based on the fragmentary words about paint-ing in A Philosopher's Journey into Rehe,this paper explores the philosophical premise of Bak Ji-won's painting theory,that is,the manifestation of materialism characterized by a scientific view of nature,a social view aimed at"fully utilizing the role of things to make the people prosperous",and a realistic aesthetic view,analyzes the logic of Bak Ji-won's painting from experience to essence,and the painting content with"seeking reality","fitting inner emotions",and"true interest"as its conno-tations,all of which provide an aesthetic path for understanding the way Korea entered modernity at that time and the relationship between humans and nature in modern society.
