A Comparison between Sengzhao's and Guo Xiang's views of"Motion and Stillness"and Changing
During Wei Jin Period,discussion of the issue of motion and stillness was included in the"pure talk"(qingtan).When Xuanxue scholars discussed the issue of motion and stillness,they expressed it as an example of the issue of presence and non-presence.Sengzhao was a representative scholar who interpreted Buddhist thoughts,drawing on Daoist-Xuanxue terminology and thoughts.When he discussed the issue of motion and stillness,he took it as a key link in his discussion of the is-sue of presence and non-presence.The discussion of motion and stillness itself was very important for Seng Zhao to clarify his Buddhist thought based on the middle-way concept.The differences between Sengzhao's and Guo Xiang's views of"motion and stillness"and the different perspectives as well as the purpose and intention of discussing the motion and stillness issue can be seen clearly through the discussion.
