A Study of the Chapters Outside of the Book of Zhou:Taste the Wheat
The'Chapters Outside of the Book of Zhou:Taste the Wheat was a document from the early Western Zhou Dynasty that records that in April 1035 BC,King Cheng of Zhou presided over the revision of the penal code and vigorously carried out sacrificial activities. The Court Historian par-ticipated in the revision of the penal code throughout the process and was also familiar with the sacrifi-cial activities carried out by King Cheng of Zhou.He recorded the above two major events and kept them as important documents of the year in the archives. Before the 24th year of King Mu of Zhou(953 BC),people compiled the records of the Court Historian into written form and widely circulated them.In the early Warring States period,it was included in the Chapters Outside of the Book of Zhou and has been passed down to this day. This article not only has important value for our study of the official and legal systems of the Western Zhou Dynasty, but also provides valuable information for our research on the establishment of the sacrificial system of wufangdi and the origin of the Yanhuang culture. It has high his-torical value and deserves double attention and in-depth exploration.
