Rural Households'Preference for Wetland Ecological Compensation Modes and Its Influencing Factors—Taking the National Protected Area of Crested Ibis in Shaanxi Province as an example
This paper is based on the rational choice theory and constructs a multiple logistic re-gression model for farmers'preferences in wetland ecological protection compensation. It empirically analyzes the relationship between farmers'rationality and compensation mode selection in the vicinity of the Crested Ibis National Nature Reserve in Shaanxi Province. The results show that cash compen-sation and annual continuous compensation are currently the most popular wetland ecological protec-tion compensation methods for farmers. In terms of personal and family characteristics, farmers who are male, young, have low education levels, have not participated in agricultural technology training, are not village cadres, and have lower family incomes have a stronger willingness to choose cash com-pensation.In terms of household resource endowment characteristics, farmers with good farmland quality, large wetland cultivation area, and no computers tend to choose cash compensation. In terms of compensation cognition and attitude characteristics, farmers who are dissatisfied with the wetland ecological compensation model and compensation standards, believe that compensation cannot com-pensate for their losses, and have weak awareness of wetland protection are willing to choose cash compensation. Therefore, the design of wetland ecological protection compensation modes should focus on the survival rationality, economic rationality, and ecological rationality of farmers around the reserve. It is necessary to enable farmers to choose the compensation modes with the best comprehen-sive benefits, and further explore diversified compensation modes based on the differences in farmers'rationality and development capabilities.
