Effect of PNF combined with KT on scapular muscle activation in college students with scapular dyskinesis
Objective To explore the effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular stimulation(PNF)combined with kinesio taping(KT)on the activation of shoulder muscles in college students with scapular dyskinesis(SD).Methods A total of 30 SD college students from Shenyang Institute of Physical Education from March to July 2021 were selected, and were divided into experimental group(PNF combined with KT intervention)and control group(PNF intervention alone)according to random number table method, both groups were intervened for eight weeks. The surface electromyography(sEMG)changes of the upper limbs were compared between the two groups before and after intervention. Results Among the 30 patients, there were 14 males and 16 females, aged from 18 to 26 years, with an average age of(21.6±1.7)years.After eight weeks of intervention, there were statistically significant differences in the maximum voluntary contract(MVC)of functional movements of shoulder joint(flexion, abdunciton and towel sliding against the wall)in the two groups after the intervention compared with those before intervention(all P<0.05).Before the intervention, there were no significant differences in functional motor test between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention, compared with the control group, the MVC of the lower trapezius(LT)of shoulder flexion was higher[(20.83±3.11)%vs.(16.36±3.76)%],the MVC of the upper trapezius(UT)of shoulder abduction was lower[(34.95±8.15)%vs.(42.49±8.06)%],the MVC of LT of shoulder abduction was higher[(27.38±4.61)%vs.(23.93±6.05)%],and the MVC of LT of shoulder towel sliding against the wall was higher[(7.51±1.99)%vs.(5.87±1.66)%]in the experimental group, the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusions PNF combined with KT and PNF training alone is beneficial for reducing abnormal scapular position in SD patients, and improving the abnormal activation of periarthritis muscles such as UT over-activation and LT under-activation,and the effect of combined intervention is better.
