A randomized controlled trial of stone-needle used in hot compress combined with massage on points along channels for nuchal dorsal myofascitis
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of stone-needle used in hot compress combined with massage on the points along the channels for patients with nuchal dorsal myofascitis. Methods A multicenter, randomized controlled clinical trial was adopted, and a total of 112 patients with nuchal dorsal myofascitis who were treated in three tertiary TCM hospitals in three different regions from 2022 to 2023 were randomly divided into experimental group (56 cases) and control group (56 cases). The patients in the experimental group were treated with stone-needle for hot compress combined with massage on the channel points, whereas those in the control group were treated with flurbiprofen gel plaster, with the course of treatment of 2 weeks. The changes of global pain scale (GPS) score and the range of motion between the two groups before and after treatment were compared. Results After 2 weeks of treatment, the GPS score of the experimental group was significantly lowered than that of the control group, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The improvement in the range of motion of neck posterior extension, shoulder abduction, and shoulder horizontal extension in the experimental group was significantly better than that in the control group, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion Stone-needle for hot compress combined with massage on the channel points can reduce pain and improve the range of motion of neck and shoulder joints in patients with fasciitis of nape muscle.
