Effect of preoperative intervention with Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction on postoperative lung function and gastrointestinal function recovery of patients with colorectal cancer
Objective To observe the effect of preoperative intervention with Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction on postoperative recovery in rectal cancer patients. Methods A total of 60 colorectal cancer patients who visited Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Capital Medical University, from January to December 2023 were enrolled and randomly divided into an observation group and a control group(30 patients in each group)using random sequences generated by SAS 9.4 software.Seven days before surgery, the observation group was given Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction orally, and the control group was given a placebo, with 1 dose per day, divided into morning and evening doses of 200 mL each. Both groups received 7 days of treatment. All patients underwent laparoscopic radical resection for colorectal cancer and were given conventional postoperative treatment. The following parameters were compared between the two groups:pulmonary function indicators, including forced vital capacity(FVC),forced expiratory volume in 1 second(FEV1),and FEV1/FVC on the day before surgery and on the seventh postoperative day;first postoperative anal flatus time, first postoperative bowel movement time, length of hospital stay, incidence of complications, and safety evaluation. Results On the seventh postoperative day,the observation group showed a significantly higher FEV1(2.40±0.39)L than the control group(2.12±0.46)L,and the FEV1/FVC ratio(77.20±10.75)was also significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(72.35±9.55)(P<0.05).The observation group had a significantly shorter time to first postoperative anal flatus(61.27±17.75)h than the control group(78.93±15.05)h(P<0.05),and the time to first postoperative bowel movement(138.33±52.80)h was also significantly shorter in the observation group than in the control group(191.43±69.23)h(P<0.05).The observation group had a significantly shorter hospital stay(7.27±1.64)days than the control group(9.27±1.93)days(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups within 4 weeks after surgery(χ2=0.357,P=0.424).No significant difference was observed in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Preoperative administration of Xuanbai Chengqi Decoction can effectively promote the recovery of pulmonary and gastrointestinal function in colorectal cancer patients after surgery.
