Objective To explore the effect of augmented reality(AR)-assisted baduanjin exercise on cognition, memory, life quality, blood pressure, the serum level of Cystatin-C(Cys-C)and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BNDF)in elderly hypertensive patients with mild cognitive impairment(MCI).Methods A total of 150 elderly hypertensive patients with MCI were selected as the subjects. They were randomly divided into three groups:control group, conventional baduanjin group, and AR-assisted baduanjin group, each consisting of 50 participants. The control group received routine health education and treatment, the conventional baduanjin group underwent supervised baduanjin exercise organized by rehabilitation therapists on top of the control group's intervention, and the AR-assisted baduanjin group,in addition to the control group's intervention, received AR-assisted baduanjin exercise guided by AR technology. The exercise sessions occurred three times a week for a duration of 60 minutes each, spanning 24 weeks. All 3 groups were assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA)scale and Mini-mental State Examination(MMSE)scale. The Wechsler Adult Memory Scale(including instantaneous memory,short-term memory and long-term memory)were applied to assess the memory of the subjects.Activity of Daily Living Scale(ADL)was employed to assess their quality of life.Blood pressure, the level of Cys-C and BNDF were also administered before and after the 24-week intervention. Results After intervention, the MoCA score,MMSE score,ADL score, instantaneous memory score,Cys-C and BDNF levels, systolic and diastolic blood pressure in both baduanjin groups were significantly improved compared to before intervention(P<0.05),and the above indicators were better than the control group after intervention, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).After treatment, the MoCA score,MMSE score,ADL score, instantaneous memory score,Cys-C and BDNF levels, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were compared between the two baduanjin groups. The AR-assisted baduanjin group exhibited superior outcomes compared to the conventional baduanjin group, and the treatment compliance was high, with statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion AR-assisted baduanjin can effectively improve the cognition and lower blood pressure levels of elderly hypertensive patients with mild cognitive impairment,as well as improving their quality of life.
