Functional dyspepsia(FD)primarily affects the stomach, implicating the liver and spleen. The elderly, due to the decline of the five viscera and the diminished liver and spleen function, constitute the main demographic suffering from FD.Disorder of the liver and spleen stands as its core pathogenesis.Drawing insights from relevant literature, this paper elucidates the physiological interplay and pathological intercommunication between the liver and spleen. It delves into the pathogenic mechanisms and treatment principles of functional dyspepsia in the elderly, emphasizing that spleen deficiency forms its pathological basis, while liver stagnation serves as a predisposing factor.Clinical manifestations include mostly spleen deficiency and qi stagnation and disharmony between the liver and stomach.Therapeutically, the approach of liver-spleen harmonization is advocated, aiming to tonify the spleen, soothe the liver, and promote the unobstructed flow of spleen and stomach functions.By incorporating relevant clinical data and experimental findings, this paper further substantiates the scientific essence of the liver-spleen harmonization approach in treating functional dyspepsia in the elderly, offering effective diagnostic and therapeutic insights for clinical practice.
