In 1942,Chinese and Japanese scholars jointly investigated and excavated the Ancient City of the Lu State in Qufu.A stone carving was discovered in the remains of the upper strata of the Duke Zhou Temple, with the words"The Northern step, made in the sixth year of the Lu State,in September"engraved on it,hence the name"Stone Inscription of the Northern step of the Lu State"(Lubeibi Carved Stone). There are two interpretations in the academic community regarding"the sixth year of Lu State"in inscriptions:"the sixth year of King Gong of the Lu State"(149 BC)and"the sixth year of King Xiao of the Lu State"(83 BC).The article reorganizes and analyzes the excavation layer, inscriptions content and style,as well as relevant literature records of the stone carving, inferring that the"sixth year of Lu State"is most likely the sixth year of the Zhang's Lu State(182 BC),providing a corresponding references for re-understanding the stone carving.
