The Development and Status Quo of Museum Studies in the United Kingdom
The history of museums in the United Kingdom spans over 300 years, but the development of museum studies as an independent academic discipline in the UK has been less than 60 years.Although British museum studies share a similar background with those in continental Europe, their trajectory has followed a distinct path. This paper aims to examine,in a chronological framework, the evolution of museum studies in the UK,from its early focus on serving museum practice to later challenging traditional approaches and contributing to social well-being.
