This paper investigates the social network effect and influencing mechanism on commercial health insurance renewal decisions by exploring other people's claim experiences in the social network. The theoretical analysis shows that observing posi-tive claim experiences boost one's insurance demands, while negative claim experiences lower demands. We then employ multi-pe-riod panel data to measure individual insurance demand through the renewal probability of commercial health insurance. The em-pirical results of a difference-in-differences method confirm these predictions.Further analysis verifies that the social network effect is larger for those who observe a larger number of claims within their social networks.
