Advance in Applied Studies of Silk Fibroin Biomaterials in Bone Regeneration
Silk fibroin is a kind of natural high polymer fiber protein with excellent mechanical properties.It has been widely used for development of bone regeneration biomaterials because it has good biocompatibility and its degraded products are of non-toxicity and low immunogenicity.This paper reviews applied research progress on different types of silk fibroin biomaterials for bone regeneration including films,nano-fibers,hydrogel and porous scaffolds.These silk fibroin biomaterials can be chemically modified and can be used as vehicle to carry growth factors and compound inorganics,which would promote proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast in vitro as well as induce new bone regeneration in vivo.
