To explore the effect of tussah sperm quality on insect vitality, five bivoltine tussah varieties were used as test materials to measure the quality of sperm during mating season and identify the resistance of tussah during three stages of metamorphosis, i. e. the egg stage, larval stage, and adult stage. The results indicated that there were significant differences in the fertilization ability of the eupyrene sperm and the motility ability of the apyrene sperm between different varieties. The fertilization ability of the eupyrene sperm was significantly positively correlated with the ability to withstand high temperature stress during the egg stage, and had a significantly positive correlation with the ability of young larvae to resist ApNPV. There was a significantly positive correlation between the activity of apyrene sperm and the high-temper-ature tolerance of adults. The quality of tussah sperm to a certain extent determined the vitality of the egg and larval sta-ges, and male moths with strong vitality in the adult stage also produced sperm with relatively higher quality. The re-search results can provide reference for the breeding of strong tussah varieties.
