Effects of Different Proportions of Mulberry Powder on Blood Biochemistry Indexes and Cholesterol Content in Broilers
Mulberry is a woody plant that widely cultivated in China. It has been popular for its diversified utilization and famous value in both medicinal and edible field, as well as rich nutrition, high yield characters in in-dustry .With the continuous technology upgrading and ap-plication of mechanized cultivation, there are broad pros-pects of the diversified application of mulberry. To explore the effects of compound feed made of hybrid mulberry branch and leaf powder on the production of broiler chic-kens, different proportions of basic diet containing 0%( control group ) , 2%( low dose group ) , 4%( medium dose group) and 6%(high dose group) mulberry branch and leaf powder were set based on isonitrogen and isoen-ergy.After feeding for 8 weeks, the growth performance, blood physicochemical indexes and expression characteristics of genes related to lipid metabolism in broilers were investigated. The results showed that broilers in mulberry branch and leaf powder treated group appeared similar growth status, foraging performance and weight gain rate in comparison with those of the control group. However, the serum total protein, antioxidant capacity, lymphocyte proliferation activity and serum ly-sozyme activity of broilers were significantly increased in mulberry branch and leaf powder treated groups.Meanwhile, ser-um alanine aminotransferase ( ALT) activity, aspartate aminotransferase ( AST) activity, content of urea nitrogen and con-tent of cholesterol were decreased in broilers fed with mulberry branch and leaf powdef.Among them, the group with 4%mulberry branch and leaf powder showed with particularly excellent performance. Results of quantitative PCR showed that the inhibition of HMGCR, SREBP-2 coding genes and the increase expression of LDLR coding gene may be related to changes in endogenous cholesterol content. In conclusion, mulberry branch and leaf powder could improve the metabolism of broilers, modify the protection roles of liver and kidney, increase the antioxidant and immune protection roles, and pro-mote cholesterol and lipid metabolism, which make it a promising forage nutriment for future industry.
