Tracing back to its source,kudze uvne root has been used for a long time to treat the epidemic disease. Kudze uvne root has the mild nature,and its taste is both spicy and sweet. It is good at treating relatively superficial diseases for promoting spleen yang and resolving the flesh,and removing obstruction in collaterals for promoting fluid production and detoxication,so it is often used for the diagnosis and treatment of syndrome of warm-heat and pestilent toxin. For example,Xu's gegen decoction combined with gao and Scutellaria baicalensis can dissipate Shaoyang and Yangming evil fever,while Xu's gegen decoction combined with ephedra herb can remove pathogeneses and cut off the disease progression,in order to treat the patients who want to develop Variola due to acute febrile infectious disease;Chen's gegen decoction combined with medicines with a light and uplifting nature such as Schizonepeta,Platycodon grandifl orum,forsythia and so on,is used to treat scarlet fever,where the epidemic toxins accumulate in the lungs and stomach;In "Prescriptions of Pharmacy Bureau",shengma gegen decoction combined with largetrifoliolious bugbane rhizome can treat fire stagnation,in order to treat the early stage of measles without adequate eruption;Chen's shengma gegen decoction combined with radix bupleuri,Scutellaria baicalensis and Gardenia can unblock and clear Sanjiao meridian,in order to treat erysipelas of stagnation of qi and blood stasis. In modern pharmacology,the mechanism of antipyretic and antiviral treatment is mainly elaborated from the perspectives of immune response and inflammatory mediators. Through the systematic review of the medicinal properties,prescription compatibility and pharmacological research of kudze uvne root,this article explores the theory and mechanism in treating epidemic diseases,in order to provide reference for clinical application and new drug development.
