Analysis of risk factors for frailty combined with malnutrition in elderly patients of geriatric medicine
Objective To analyze the occurrence of frailty combined with malnutrition in geriatric patients and conduct differentiated analysis of the risk factors. Methods A survey was conducted on geriatric patients admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College from October 2021 to December 2022. According to whether the patients had frailty combined with malnutrition, they were divided into frailty combined with malnutrition group (n=162) and non-frailty combined with malnutrition group (n=324). Binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors of frailty combined with malnutrition. Results The incidence of frailty combined with malnutrition was 33.33%. Age ≥ 75 years old[OR=1.061,95%CI (1.022-1.101),P=0.002],disability[OR=1.210,95%CI (1.057-1.385),P=0.006],cognitive impairment[OR=2.257,95%CI (1.676-3.039),P<0.001],Charlson comorbidity score ≥ 5[OR=1.413,95%CI (1.172-1.704),P<0.001],and the quantity of medication taken ≥5[OR=1.038,95%CI (1.001-1.076),P=0.044]were risk factors for the occurrence of frailty combined with malnutrition. Conclusion There is a high overlap between frailty and malnutrition in geriatric patients. In clinical practice, effective intervention measures should be supplemented and integrated based on the risk factors of frailty combined with malnutrition.
