Research progress in non-pharmacological therapies in traditional Chinese medicine for catheter-related bladder discomfort
Catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD) refers to a group of clinical manifestations caused by bladder detrusor muscle abnormalities during catheter insertion, resulting in bladder overactivity. These clinical symptoms include frequent urination, urgency of urination and discomfort in superior pubic symphysis. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) believes that kidney deficiency, dampness heat of bladder, and dysregulation of qi in the human body are the etiology and pathogenesis of irritation symptoms of bladder. When patients are unable to take oral medicine or can not tolerate due to excessive side effects of drugs,TCM non-drug therapy shows its unique advantages such as clinical effectiveness, low incidence of adverse reactions, mostly transient, easy for patients to accept, reducing the dosage of intraoperative anesthetic drugs used, and reducing the side effects of anesthetic drugs compared with Western medicine preventive therapy. However, the related researches of TCM non-drug therapy still lack more evidence support of evidence-based medicine. Therefore, clinical research and basic research exploration in this field should be emphasized in the future.
