Diagnostic efficacy of serum hepcidin combined with free erythrocyte protoporphyrin levels in iron deficiency anemia
Objective To explore the diagnostic efficacy of serum hepcidin combined with free erythrocyte protoporphyrin(FEP)levels in iron deficiency anemia. Methods 85 patients with iron deficiency anemia admitted to Kunshan First People's Hospital from March 2022 to April 2023 were selected as the study group, and 53 healthy people who underwent physical examinations in the hospital during the same period were selected as the control group. The patients in the study group were further divided into the severe anemia group, the moderate anemia group, and the mild anemia group according to hemoglobin concentration. The serum levels of hepcidin and FEP between the study group and the control group were compared. The serum levels of hepcidin and FEP in patients with different degrees of iron deficiency anemia were compared. The diagnostic efficacy of the serum hepcidin and FEP levels, and their combination for iron deficiency anemia was analyzed. Results The mean corpuscular volume(MCV),red blood cell count(RBC)and mean corpuscular hemoglobin(MCH)of the study group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05),but the red blood cell distribution width(RDW)of the study group was wider than that of control group(P<0.05).Serum hepcidin level in the severe anemia group was lower than that in the mild anemia group and the moderate anemia group(P<0.05),and serum hepcidin level in the moderate anemia group was lower than that in the mild anemia group(P<0.05).Serum FEP level in the severe anemia group was higher than that in the mild anemia group and the moderate anemia group(P<0.05),and serum FEP level in the moderate anemia group was higher than that in the mild anemia group(P<0.05).The area under the curve(AUC)values of serum hepcidin and FEP levels, and their combination for the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia were 0.778,0.774 and 0.906,respectively(P<0.05),and the AUC value of the combination diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia was higher(P<0.05).Conclusion Serum hepcidin and FEP levels can be used to diagnose iron deficiency anemia, and the combination of these two indicators has higher diagnostic efficacy for this disease.
