Pu Wenxian and his younger brother Pu Wenchang were among the earlier readers when Liu Quanfu collected Version 1754 of The Story of the Stone.Their handwritten postscripts and seals are still preserved at the end of the book, dated to the fourth year of the Tongzhi era(1865),during the early autumn of the YiChou year, located in the Banmu Garden,a luxurious residence in the capital. The connections and entanglements between the Pu brothers and the Jiaxu Edition,Liu Quanfu, and Banmu Garden owners Wanyan Chongshi,Chong Hou,Song Shen and Hua Yu deserve further examination and verification to return to the historical scene and clarify doubts. The results show that the known historical materials highly match the information from the Pu postscripts, indicating a very close relationship between the Pu brothers and the owner of the Banmu Garden,Wanyan Chongshi, among others.By carefully reading their poetry collections,"Jian Zai Kan Shi Chao"and"Wei Xue Kan Ci Gao,"Pu Wenchang's birth and death years can also be identified. The chronological disorder of the seven postscripts at the end of the manuscript, including the Pu postscripts, formed naturally and presents no issues. The remaining volumes of Pu Wenchang's"Wei Xue Kan Ci Gao"in the Ancient Books Department of the National Library are a byproduct.
