Analysis of a Cold Wave Weather Process in Yunnan in March 2011
This was a typical weather process caused by southern trough and strong cold wave between March 15 and 18,2011.This event caused cooling-rain-snow weather in Yunnan province. In order to research the reason that caused this process and provide forecasting idea for similar process in future, this process was analyzed based on the NCEP1° × 1°6h interval reanalysis data, daily observation data and black body temperature (TBB) data by synoptic analysis and diagnosis methods. Results showed that there was a transversal trough in middle and high latitude on 500hPa.It tended to breakthrough with the low trough which was in east of plateau. The strong northwest flow behind trough brought strong cold advection for this cold wave weather process. The warm and wet flow was transported to Yunnan continuously by the southern trough which developed and moved eastward.Cold and warm flow intersected between higher and lower layer. The sustainable effect of shear line at lower layer and surface cold front caused this cooling-rain-snow weather.
