Ultra-Dried Stylosanthes Seed Preservation and Its Effect to the Seed Biomemberane System
Applying re-humidification treatment to ultra-dried seed of stylosanthes guianenesis cv. Reyan No. 5 before seed imbibition could mitigate damage to the seed biomembrance system during the imbibing process. Otherwise, the imbibition would deplete the seed vigour, more particularly, the vigour index. When the seed contains 3. 17% moisture, the ultra-drying treatment preserves well the seed vigour, germination viability and percentage. The optimum seed moisture content should be higher than 3%, which increases the seed aging resistibility. A study of the eletrical conductivity, ions leakage, and dehydrogenase activity of the ultra-dried Stylosanthes seed reveals that a key factor guaranteeing the vigour of the ultra-dried seed is by re-humidification treatment, and a feasible measure to store the seed is by ultra-drying technique.
