Effects of Moxa Smoke Exposure on Respiratory Disease in Acupuncturists:A Retrospective Cohort Study
Objective:To investigate the effect of moxa smoke exposure on respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchiitis, rhinitis, pneumonia and bronchitis in acupuncturists. Methods:A retrospective study was conducted to collect the health data of acupuncturists who had been on the job for more than 1 year, including general condition, exposure to moxa smoke, and health diagnosis data of chro-nic bronchiitis, rhinitis, pneumonia and bronchitis since work.Acupuncturists who spent more than half of their time in acupuncture and had no or little time to use smokeless moxibustion(smokeless moxibustion equipment)were used as the moxa smoke exposure group, and other acupuncturists were in the moxa smoke unexposed group. The general data of the two groups of acupuncturists, the prevalence of four respiratory diseases, and the factors influencing the respiratory diseases of the acupuncturists were analyzed. The chi-square test was used to compare the prevalence of the prevalence, and the multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the effect of moxa tobacco exposure on the prevalence of respiratory diseases. Results:A total of 756 acupuncturists were included in the study, including 518 in the exposed group and 238 in the unexposed group.Compared with the exposed group, there was no signifi-cant difference in the prevalence of chronic bronchiitis, pneumonia and rhinitis in the exposed group, and the prevalence of bronchitis was significantly increased.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between muxa ex-posure and chronic bronchiitis, rhinitis and pneumonia, and the risk value was not statistically significant.Moxa tobacco exposure was a risk factor for bronchitis(OR:1.683,95%CI:1.015-2.790,P=0.043).The family history of thoracic diseases was chronic bron-chiitis(OR:7.450,95%CI:2.810-19.749,P=0.000),rhinitis(OR:1.790,95%CI:1.226-2.612,P=0.003),pneumonia(OR:2.901,95%CI:1.689-4.983,P=0.000)and bronchitis(OR:2.034,95%CI:1.291-3.206,P=0.002).Conclusion:Moxa smoke exposure had no significant effect on the prevalence of chronic bronchiitis, rhinitis and pneumonia in acupuncturists, and moxa smoke had no obvious occupational hazards to acupuncturists.
