Quinochalcone:A Review on Its Phytochemistry and Pharmacology
Quinonechalcones, which are a type of flavonoid compound, are commonly found in Safflower(Carthamus tinctorius L.)and have been isolated from a few other plants. In the past few decades,a total of 47 different quinonechalcones have been identified.Pharmacological research has revealed that quinonechalcones possess diverse biological properties such as anti-inflammatory,anticoagu-lant,antioxidant,and anti-tumor effects. In recent years, the research and utilization of drugs related to quinonechalcones have also at-tracted great attention.Uinonechalcone glycosides, represented by hydroxysafflor yellow A,have been employed in the development of pharmaceutical agents, such as safflower injection, for clinical treatment.Despite the favorable pharmacological properties and clinical applications of these compounds, their practical use is still limited because of issues such as low oral bioavailability and adverse reac-tions.The aim of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the chemical composition and pharmacological properties of qui-nonechalcones,while highlighting the current limitations in their applications. The intention is to offer a reference for future develop-ment and utilization of quinonechalcones.
