Reconstructing Underwater Topography from Sonar Image Under the Constraint of Single Beam Data
Though single beam system and multibeam echo sounder can be used for underwater depth measurement, they both have limitations in obtaining high-resolution topography. To solve this problem,we propose a method to reconstruct underwater topography from side scan sonar image under the constraint of single beam data. Meanwhile,an iterative termi-nation method is proposed by referring to the single beam da-ta. Firstly,a 3D terrain reconstruction model based on side-scan sonar image is constructed based on lambert reflection model. Then, with the constraint of single beam data, the ini-tial and termination conditions are established. Finally, the differences between single beam data and reconstructed terrain are calculated to evaluate the accuracy. Meanwhile, the con-vergence of iterative process is studied. Experimental resultsshow that the proposed method has good convergence, the re-constructed terrain can reflect real features and the iterative process is objective and automatic.
