Tactile Sign Language:A New Perspective on Understanding the Communication of Deafblind Individuals
Deafblind individuals have both visual and auditory impairments,which results in the difficulty of information acquisition and communication challenges.Conventional spoken and sign language communication methods are usually not applicable to them,making tactile sign language a viable communication option.Tactile sign language used by deafblind people was initially only a tactile version of deaf people's sign language,but with the development of this group's awakening of self-awareness and further exploration,protactile sign language was born as a means of communication.Since then,tactile sign language has gradually formed its grammar structure and conversational features and gained local promotion within the community.Some suggestions are put forward for the research and practice on deafblindness in China:Developing the communication potentials of deafblind people through tactile sign language,enhancing their well-being and social participation,and taking measures to promote the development of special education and rehabilitation cause.
