Reading for the Blind in the Era of Intelligent Media:Dilemmas and Optimization Paths
In the era of intelligent media, compared with the intellectual and cultural services for normal people, reading services for the blind have improved greatly, but there is still room for improvement. We reviewed the development of braille publications and braille reading service organizations to explore recent advances in reading services for the blind along with the development of digital techniques, and found major dilemmas in reading services for the blind, such as high-cost braille reading resources with limited types and quantities, and information singularity,high-cost auxiliary braille reading devices with low compatibility and complicated operations, and imperfect environments for the blind to access to reading resources.Accordingly,we put forward the following optimization paths on the basis of good experiences gained from some foreign countries:creating barrier-free conditions for the blind to access to reading resources with policy guarantees provided by the government departments and funding support;enriching the accessible publication resources supported by the use of copyrights and techniques by the publishing industry;creating good reading environments by braille reading service institutions in collaboration with other institutions;fostering the accessible editing awareness among students majoring in digitalization-related fields through education-based means by schools.
