Research Progress on the Impact of Digital Finance on Credit Supply and Risk of Commercial Banks
With the rapid development of digital intelligent technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence(AI)and its deep integration with financial elements, promoting the digital transformation of financial institutions such as commercial banks has become a frontier issue deeply discussed by academia. It is also a key link for China to continue to do a good job in digital finance, serve the digital economy with high quality, and promote the integration of digital and real economy. However, while promoting financial innovation and improving the credit function of commercial banks, digital finance brings challenges to preventing and resolving financial risks.First, this paper summarizes the connotation and measurement indicators of digital finance more comprehensively, defines and discriminates the concepts of digital finance, and finds that following the context of the integrated development of technology and finance, the boundary of digital finance extends from outside the banking system to inside the banking system, and from emphasizing technology itself to increasingly focusing on various scenarios. The correlation measurement research has changed from a single time dimension to a dual dimension of time-space(bank)measurement,and the method and data basis used have broken through the conventional practice.Second, this paper analyzes the deep-seated effect of digital finance on the credit supply and financial risk of commercial banks. As for credit supply, existing studies have analyzed how the digital transformation of banks affects their credit supply from the aspects of information asymmetry, operating efficiency and profitability, the convenience of financial services, bank competition and corporate governance, and bank heterogeneity. In terms of financial risks, there are different conclusions on the impact of digital finance inside and outside banks on micro-financial risks.Research on the impact of digital finance outside banks on the systemic risks of banks focuses on the risk spillover between industries, while research on the impact of digital transformation on the systemic risks of banks is relatively rare.Third, this paper puts forward the expansion space of future research:the iteration of emerging technologies to enrich the connotation of digital finance;exploring new mechanism channels to improve the current serious single or homogenous situation;how to integrate digital finance with technology finance, green finance, inclusive finance, and pension finance;exploring the impact of bank digital transformation on the economic operation, risk and digital innovation of real enterprises based on the bank-enterprise loan relationship;exploring the problem of"inconsistency between words and deeds"in banks;and improving data governance and policy design.Studying the characteristics of credit supply and financial risks of commercial banks against the background of digital finance has important theoretical and practical significance for deepening research in this field, improving the ability of financial services to the real economy, and preventing and resolving financial risks.
