Spatial and Temporal Differentiation and Formation Mechanisms of the Linkage of Urban-Rural Integration and Regional Coordinated Development in China
Urban-rural integration and regional coordinated development are not only a long-standing strategic goal of China but also an important issue in current social development.Although existing research proposes to promote the linkage of urban-rural integration and regional coordinated development, most of them are theoretical discussions and lack of quantitative analysis of the linkage of urban-rural integration and regional coordinated development.Based on the measurement of urban-rural integration and regional coordinated development in 30 provincial-level regions from 2005 to 2019,this paper uses the coupling coordination model to measure the urban-rural integration and regional coordinated development and utilizes kernel density estimation,Dagum Gini coefficient and Moran's I index to reveal the characteristics of spatial and temporal differentiation. From the perspectives of economic, institutional and social environment, with the help of the geographic detector, this paper explores the formation mechanism of spatial and temporal differentiation of the linkage level.Research findings show that the linkage level shows a clear upward trend, but there is still a big gap with high-quality coordination. It presents the spatial distribution pattern of decreasing in the order of eastern region, central, and western regions. The linkage level of each region shows the stable spatial agglomeration characteristics of"high-high"and"low-low";the effect of urbanization, transportation accessibility, population size, human capital, market integration,Internet penetration rate, education input, and government public expenditure on the spatial difference of linkage level decreases successively, and the influencing factors have obvious differences in different regions and periods. The interaction between different influencing factors showed an enhanced relationship.Compared with existing literature, this paper makes the following contributions.Firstly, from the perspective of research, this paper integrates urban-rural integration and regional coordinated development into a unified framework, and quantitatively analyses the linkage level of urban-rural integration and regional coordinated development.Secondly,in terms of research methodology, this paper makes comprehensive use of kernel density estimation,Dagum Gini coefficient, and Moran's I index to analyze in detail the temporal evolution and spatial difference of the linkage level.Thirdly, from the perspective of formation mechanism, this paper, from the perspectives of economic, institutional, and social environment, explores the formation mechanism of spatial and temporal differentiation in the linkage level of urban-rural integration and coordinated development.
