The application study of adaptive mesh refinement in automotive CFD
Based on the CAERI Aero Model, this paper proposes an automated computational workflow by employing adaptive mesh refinement method and validates the accuracy and feasibility of this method in automotive aerodynamics CFD simulations.Compared with the traditional grid refinement methods in wind tunnel experiments, the adaptive mesh refinement method used for CFD calculations exhibits an error of less than 1%, showcasing its high simulation accuracy. While maintaining a consistency in the three-dimensional structure of the flow field, it reduces the overall volume mesh count of the whole vehicle by approximately 13% and improves the computational efficiency by about 9.6%.Thus, our research findings may provide valuable reference for the application of the adaptive mesh refinement method in automotive CFD simulations.
