Research on the influence of digital economy on the construction of modern industrial system
The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to"build a modern industrial system and insist on focusing on the real economy for economic development."Modernization is a dynamic evolution process.A modern industrial system not only depicts the quality and efficiency of the industrial system itself,but also promotes the integration among industries and influence the size of their external related power.The modern industrial system is important for achieving high-quality economic development,and it is also the material foundation of a modern country.However,at present,China's industrial system has the following shortcomings,the sluggish transformation of traditional industries and insufficient development of emerging industries.The construction of a modern industrial system is of great significance to promote the process of Chinese-style modernization.With the development of the digital economy,digital derivatives in the digital era have shown an explosive growth,and they have continuously transformed traditional industries and improved the fairness and efficiency of industrial development by virtue of their marginal cost of zero.In order to explore the impact of digital economy on the construction of modern industrial system,analyzing the relevant literature in the academic community,this study summarizes the impact and mechanism of digital economy on the construction of modern industrial system,and puts forward corresponding research hypotheses.At the same time,the panel data of 30 provincial-level administrative regions in China from 2011 to 2021 were used for empirical analysis to verify the accuracy of the impact pathway.This paper establishes a theoretical framework for the influence of digital economy on the construction of modern industrial system,reveals the internal mechanism of digital economy to promote the construction of modern industrial system.It conducts a robustness test by employing three methods:substitution of explanatory variables,substitution of explanatory variables and lag control variables.Due to the fact that digital economy between regions in China,the impact effect on the modern industrial system may be different,so according to the division method of the National Bureau of Statistics,the selected provinces are divided into three regions:the eastern region,the central region and the western region,and on the basis of overcoming the endogenous problem through instrumental variables,the heterogeneity of the digital economy on the construction of the modern industrial system is tested from the aspects of geographical location and education level.The results of the study showed that the digital economy has the characteristics of strong technology,strong penetration and fast growth rate,which provides a strong impetus for promoting the transformation of traditional industries and high-quality economic development.The digital economy has significantly improved the level of construction of a modern industrial system.For every 1％ increase in the digital economy index,the level of modern industrial system construction will increase by 0.47％.The results of the internal mechanism test show that the digital economy has promoted the construction of a modern industrial system through two paths:improving green technology innovation and optimizing industrial structure upgrading.In the era of digital economy,a new round of technological revolution in improving the level of scientific and technological innovation also provides new elements and new models for the upgrading of industrial structure,digital industrialization is to give birth to a large number of emerging industries.On the one hand,it can promote industrial transformation and realize industrial structure upgrading;on the other hand,by promoting green technology innovation,it can improve the speed of industrial green transformation,and promote the construction of a modern industrial system.Heterogeneity analysis showed that the impact of digital economy on the construction of modern industrial system in the central and western regions and the sample group with high education level was greater than its impact on the eastern region and the sample group with low education level. According to the above empirical results,policy suggestions are given.Firstly,it is expected to give full play to the application of the digital economy,strengthen the joint role of industrial digitalization and digital industrialization,and realize the intelligent development of the industrial system;secondly,the government departments should guide industrial entities to carry out green innovation activities,reduce energy waste,improve the development environment,create positive external influences,promote green technology innovation,and realize the green transformation and upgrading of the industrial system;Labor-intensive industries,such as steel and chemicals,with long production periods,are in need of digital transformation to improve their production efficiency.Finally,there is a great demand for talents in various industries in China,whereas the current talent training programmes cannot fully meet the demand,so there is a potential in the development of talent reserve.The government should improve its talent training programmes to adapt to the transformation of the industrial structure and adjust the employment structure accordingly,so that the digital economy can fully display its value in the construction of a modern industrial system.
