Study of the healing effects of microwave heat on diabase asphalt mixes
Pavement fractures may be fixed and the lifespan of asphalt pavements increased by employing microwave thermally induced healing technology on diabase pavements. We investigate the use of microwave thermally induced healing technology for diabase asphalt mixes. To identify the causes of microwave heat-induced healing of diabase asphalt mixes, the chemical composition of the minerals and electromagnetic parameters are first examined.Three different graded diabase asphalt mixes(GAC-13,SMA-13,and OGFC-13)are prepared, and the microwave heat-induced heating rate of the mixes is investigated with thermal constants and microwave ovens. Our findings reveal the diabase asphalt mixture has specific microwave heat-induced properties. When applied to dense graded GAC-13,the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity reach 1.610 W/(m K)and 0.848 3 mm2/s respectively. When applied to broken graded SMA-13,they stand at 1.649 W/(m K)and 0.878 5 mm2/s respectively. With a maximum healing rate of 78.3%and 79.4%,the two parameters perform better in microwave heat induction and transfer, which is beneficial for healing.
